Album Cover
This project's objective was to redesign an album cover of our choice. The album that I had selected was Bu-Ikikaesu!! by the Japanese Heavy Metal Band Maximum The Hormone. The main focus was the concept of cognitive dissonance and the idea of presenting the viewer with an unexpected scene and a sense of uncertainty. I wanted to focus on a more cute, illustrative style to emulate the sense of uncertainty with conflicting visual information. We expect the cat to be playing with a ball of yarn, but instead he is playing with impending doom. The front and back of the cover play into the concept of Schrödinger's cat where he is both alive and dead at the same time but you can only see one side of the album at a time when it is assembled. This plays into the meaning of the album, Bu-Ikikaesu!!, translating to "Back to Life." The album is often referred to as "Back to Death" as well. The simultaneously alive and dead cat represents the dual meaning of the album.
